Cookeville Rescue Mission Community Garden

In 2018, SeedFork began talking with The Cookeville Rescue Mission about how we could partner together to improve their food and nutrition program. The rescue mission has recently undergone renovations to move and expand their kitchen and make way for a new and improved nutrition program.

The Cookeville Rescue Mission offers temporary emergency shelter to anyone who has need of it they’re open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year, including holidays, and provide regular meals, along with a devotional at 7 p.m. each evening and church services on Sunday. While our residents are here, we try to connect them with various local agencies that can provide housing assistance, job placement, health services and other social services. SeedFork has been looking for locations to expand our Community Garden Network in 2019, and the Cookeville Rescue Mission seemed like the perfect organization to partner with, as they have the need and the resources to make a community garden there a success.

A garden at The Rescue Mission would not only provide nutritious food to those staying, but also a chance to experience horticultural therapy and learn valuable gardening skills.
